Cylinder Irons

Permak Cylinder Iron

In the drum machine, the heated cylinders are generally the rotating cylinders. This is also the case in your machine.

Steam enters the cylinder and the condensate is discharged through a steam header - coal (rotary joint). The condensate is normally discharged through a fixed siphon.

In order to maintain the correct temperature on the cylinder surface, the steam pressure must be precisely controlled and condensate must be discharged as soon as it forms.

There are many factors that affect the characteristics of condensate inside a rotating cylinder:

  • The diameter of the cylinder,
  • The speed of the machine,
  • Condensate amount
  • The depth of the condensate film inside the cylinder,

like.

Depending on these factors, the condensate in the cylinder behaves as “puddling”, “cascading” or “rimming”.

Siphons inside the cylinder are generally successful in discharging condensate in the form of “Puddling” and “Cascading”.

In faster machines, in the case of “Rimming”, water remains in the cylinders because the condensate cannot be removed with the siphon and in this case the cylinders cannot heat up.

For this reason, operators have to reduce the rotation speed of the machines.

The decrease in production volume in machines that operate slowly causes losses to the business.

In fast rotating cylinders such as barabans, a large amount of pushing steam is needed to assist the flow that condenses in the cylinder through the siphon tube in the machines.

In such cases, a definitive evacuation will be ensured by performing a sweeping operation with a needle valve placed in the by-pass line.
